THE LEGACY OF MAURIZIO MAZZOLI
Maurizio Mazzoli was born in Parma Italy on the 7 May 1945, the third child of Primo and Erminia Mazzoli.
Educated in Parma, he served his National Service then travelled to Germany to work before a telephone call from his cousin Carlo Campari in Edinburgh brought him to Scotland.
In Edinburgh he worked in hospitality and catering, including spells at the Grosvenor Hotel and Latina Restaurant in Elm Row. During this time, he met many new friends and a young lady, Jacqueline, with whom he had a son Paul, who was born in 1969.
In the early 70s Maurizio headed back to Parma and worked as an export manager, a job which saw him travel extensively, not only in Italy but round the world.
Retiring in 2008, he returned to Scotland to join his son Paul and family and worked with them in their restaurant in Haddington. It was at that time that he shared his family recipe for stone-baked pizzas which, of course, we introduced to the menu.
He moved to Musselburgh to live during his retirement and enjoyed his love for gardening, cooking, reading, and following his Italian football team. He always had time for his neighbours – his front door was always open for a friendly welcome.
Maurizio sadly passed away in 2023, but the year before, in 2022, Paul and his wife Ann opened Mazzoli Continental Café/Bar and Pizzeria. Here, in the tradition of Maurizio, whose image appears on our logo, you can enjoy to this day his traditional stone-baked pizzas.
